O'Hare was originally a volunteer in the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) but left in the late 1970s following a series of disciplinary clashes.〔 He later joined the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA). After kidnapping a Dublin dentist and cutting off two of his fingers in 1987 he was imprisoned until 2006, when he was granted extended temporary release.〔 ==Early life== O'Hare was born in Keady, County Armagh, Northern Ireland into a family with a strong republican background.
